Fleeting (Portraits of artist and artwork)
Fleeting is yet another manifestation of my longstanding pre-occupation with the tenuous boundaries delineating the material and immaterial. Issues peculiar to Art and an Artwork are also explored against the backdrop of memories, time, and an even larger one concerning existentialism.More importantly, it also challenges viewers on the notion of what constitutes an artwork: Are the photographs in this exhibition the 'rightful' art pieces or the sculptures in these visual documentation? Definitions of the role of an artist and the role of photography as a medium are also brought into question.
Flux “A picture which is able to show flux and hence the flow of time, and this interests me more than one which only depicts a split second "
Through documenting how the artworks of wood sculptures were conceived, I have established a platform for both the viewer and I in exploring broader concepts such as the passage of time. The treatment and expression of time in my works are of foremost concern. I have chosen to embraces time as a continuous entity rather than a fragmented one. I rendered these fleeting moments with a lasting permanence in these works. The motion blur which is possible in the photography medium and not visible to the naked human eye may have veiled the visages of these artists, but the impressions of their creative work are indelible. |
