In Phases | Presented by Sculpture Society (Singapore) As part of the Singapore Art Show 2007 Exhibition Date: 14th Sept – 30th Sept event Venue: Fort Canning Centre & Fort Canning Park The Last Three Decades – Wood Sculptures by Wee Kong Chai For more than thirty years. Wee Kong Chai has been producing sculptures without much publicity. Choosing to work in solo, Wee has shifted from doing painting to woodcarving, developing exciting methods of wood sculpting, and advancing his interest in the human figure. This exhibition will feature 10 of Wee’s woodworks which invites the viewers for close examination. His artworks are in the collection of the National Museum of Singapore, Singapore Art Museum & private collectors. |

Fun Facts: What looks like litter paint dots on the surface are actually thousand of nails embedment! After the World War II, Singapore was short of iron tools, such as hammer. Therefore, people punched nails into wooden mallet to strengthen it. Mr Wee apply this daily experience of the old Singapore period on his artwork. Something that we can share with the younger generation. |
